In 1993, long before the terms "PDA" and "tablet" appeared, Apple created a "personal digital assistant" on the platform of OS Newton - MessagePad.
The device had a large monochrome touch screen that was able to recognize handwriting input. Unfortunately, the market did the market didn't accept the device. The price of MessagePad was too high for buyers, and and the pockets of users could not carry such a device. In 1998, Steve Jobs stoped further development of the device.
